Tom Wishart

Dr Tom Wishart is Professor of Molecular Anatomy at The Roslin Institute. This inspirational innovator is making crucial advancements in the fight against neurodegenerative diseases. 

His expertise is in accurate modelling of human disease and he uses a holistic collaborative approach to try and bridge the translational gap to the clinic. With his substantial experience in this, it is no surprise that he is Deputy Director of The Roslin Institute responsible for Translation and Commercialisation. 

 

Batten disease is an umbrella term referring to a group of inherited disorders of the nervous system that cause dementia and early death in children. These conditions are also collectively known as neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, or NCLs. Researchers based at The Roslin Institute have created a flock of sheep that carry the gene for one form of this disease in order to develop potential treatments for this severe life-limiting disease.
