How would you explain your job to an alien?

I am the middle link between an academic and a company. Making sure both parties are protected and paid when sharing expertise with each other.

What did you do before EI?

I worked with Consumer products such as Coca-Cola, Lucozade and Ribena – managing a portfolio of retail clients.

What’s the best thing about working here?

The people make this place great and it's nice to help academics engage with industry.

What's your favourite project that you’ve worked on? What did it accomplish?

Working with an academic over in Oncology, helping him and his team develop a service whereby reporting on their cancer data they can help big pharma companies help patients at the front line of NHS cancer care.

What does innovation mean to you?

Realising the potential of the ideas and getting them out into the world.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?

You have two ears and one mouth – use them in that proportion :-)

If you had one more hour in the day, how would you spend it?

With my family or being out in the fresh air or dipping in the sea.

Do you ever imagine yourself in another occupation? If so, which one and why?

I have always wanted to run my own business, but never had the capital to set one up... if I went back to my 20-year-old self, I would give it a go!

What might people be surprised to learn about you?

Probably not much, as I am a bit of an oversharer!

What would you really like to work on at EI/UoE?

I would enjoy working in Student Enterprise as I think the students are inspiring, but I would also probably mother them!

What is your typical approach to problem-solving?

Looking at creative solutions, then gathering some facts about whether they are feasible or not.

What is your most effective strategy for dealing with stress and unwinding?

Dipping in the sea and walking outside.

How do you achieve a balance between work and your personal life?

I try to be strict with myself and clock off on time to give myself space to spend time with family/ friends and do my hobbies.
