At the end of last week we said goodbye to Enterprise Officer Jack McMillan as he moves onto a new startup opportunity. Jack worked at Edinburgh Innovation's for nearly six years and will be greatly missed. His first introduction with Edinburgh Innovations was as a student in the Business School, attending our events and workshops. One of the first events he attended was Techstars Startup Weekend (named differently at the time) back in 2017. He then caught the 'entrepreneurial bug' and was a regular at our events. He was hired as one of our very first interns where he made himself indispensable, it wasn't long before we hired him as a full-time staff member. On Friday Jack reflected on his time at Edinburgh Innovations: "I remember the Student Enterprise Hub when it was still a café, and we took that and turned it into the Student Enterprise Hub. And that was a complete gamechanger for our team and from there we grew in headcount and recruited some amazing people that I’ve since had the pleasure of working with and I’ll treasure those memories forever. I’ve been there – I’ve been a young founder with an idea that I wanted to bring into the world. To have the courage to pursue a business idea, is something that you define yourself by and genuinely, interacting and engaging with Edinburgh Innovations makes people believe that they can pursue their idea. And I just think that what we do in this team is so important, it means so much to people and I hope you all don’t forget that. We have countless case studies where they have come from nothing to some of the most exciting startups in Scotland and it’s through our efforts and through our support and our beliefs that we instil in them and to really give it a go. I just think that’s such a beautiful thing and it’s such an honourable line of work that we all do and its such a fantastic team and I’m going to miss it so much." Jack is now working for an innovative startup and we wish him the best of luck. We'll no doubt see Jack again at a future event, this time as a guest speaker.
